Laser Skin Treatment - Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have questions or concerns about Laser Skin Treatment? Below are some of the most commonly asked questions, and the answers you're looking for.
How does the laser remove hair?
The laser emits a gentle beam of energy that passes through the skin to the hair follicle. The energy is then transformed into heat, which damages the follicle. The scientific principle called Thermokinetic Selectivity, (TKS) makes this method of hair removal particularly effective.
Why is TKS important
TKS makes it possible for laser energy to "select" only hair follicles, while sparing surrounding skin from damage. This brings the cosmetic results you want with the clinical results you need.
Is the hair removal treatment painful?
Most patients describe the treatment as a series of slight pin pricks to the skin. The majority of patients tolerate this sensation without requiring anesthetics. Within about 30 minutes of treatment, the area may become pink or red, and this may last from a few hours to one day.
How many treatments are required to remove unwanted hair?
Hair grows in cycles. The laser only affects hair when it is in its early-growth phase. The laser will disable follicles that are actively producing hair at the time of treatment. At any time, some hair follicles are dormant. Repeat sessions will treat these follicles when they re-enter the growth phase.
How does a laser treat unsightly veins?
With a beam of light, the laser can deliver a prescribed dose of energy to the spider veins. The laser selectively coagulates the problem veins while sparing surrounding areas. After treatment, the vessel slowly and naturally disappears.
How many treatments are required to eliminate spider veins?
Results are seen within three to four weeks. Typically, one to two treatments are recommended.
Can we be sure that this will work on my veins?
This is something that must be determined with each patient individually. The majority of patients will benefit from this procedure.
Is this treatment difficult?
No. This non-invasive treatment process takes between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on your situation. After treatment, there is no down timewhich means you can resume all of your normal activities immediately afterward.
Is the treatment of my veins going to be painful?
There is some minor discomfort associated with this laser treatment. Most patients describe the sensation as a series of rubber band snaps to the skin. We can often reduce or eliminate this by cooling the treated area with an air cooling device.
